About Springfield Police Department

Springfield is a city in the county seat of Greene County, Missouri. The city is populated with over 159,490 people, which makes it the largest city in Missouri. Springfield is nicknamed as “Queen City of the Ozarks” but it was originally named after Springfield, Massachusetts by the migrants of that area. Springfield’s economy is mainly driven by tourism, education, retail, manufacturing industries, and the health care sector. The city’s metropolitan area is located around the waterways, caves, recreational lakes, and forests which makes it an attraction towards tourism. The downtown area of the city continues its resurrection and has historic theaters that are restored to their original state by the Community Improvement District (CID). The Springfield Police Department serves a population of approximately 167,900 residents in an 82.98 square miles area, with over 362 sworn officers and 81.5 civilians’ employees. The department is organized into two bureaus the first is the Investigations & Support Services and the second is the Uniform Operations.

To succeed at the Springfield police department test, candidates must take three different kinds of exam. First, the police written test – which tests an applicant’s ability at math, memory, reading comprehension, incident report writing, and situational awareness. Second, candidates must take a fitness exam – testing endurance, upper body strength, and mobility. Finally, candidates take an oral board exam. Success at all three parts of the Springfield police test means the highest scoring applicants will make it through to the local police academy.
