Springfield police department has a total of 500 sworn personnel, nearly 420 patrol officers, and 80 administrators. The police force is responsible to maintain law in a jurisdiction of 33.2 square miles. The police officers serve an estimated population of 153,700 residents.

To succeed at the Springfield, Massachusetts police department test, candidates must take three different kinds of exam. First, the police written test – which tests an applicant’s ability at math, memory, reading comprehension, incident report writing, and situational awareness. Second, candidates must take a fitness exam – testing endurance, upper body strength, and mobility. Finally, candidates take an oral board exam. Success at all three parts of the Springfield police test means the highest scoring applicants will make it through to the local police academy.
