Paterson, also known as “The Silk City”, is located in Passaic County of New Jersey, United States. The city of Peterson was incorporated on 11th April 1831 and named after the governor of New Jersey, William Peterson. Paterson police department is the primary law enforcement agency organization in the city, which is currently led by the Chief of Police, Ibrahim M Baycora. The department was formed on August 1, 1866 and it is located at:

The department consists of 400 officers and 150 unsworn members, which serve a total population of about 145,700 residents in an 8.6mi² area. Paterson police department provides a variety of services including Patrol Command, Narcotics, Vice Bureau Command, ABC Investigations, Major Crimes, Juvenile, Domestic Crimes, Meghan’s Law, Internal Affairs Division, Administrative Services Bureau, Community Policing, Specialized Investigation Division, and Special Operations Unit.

To succeed at the Paterson police department test, candidates must take three different kinds of exam. First, the police written test – which tests an applicant’s ability at math, memory, reading comprehension, incident report writing, and situational awareness. Second, candidates must take a fitness exam – testing endurance, upper body strength, and mobility. Finally, candidates take an oral board exam. Success at all three parts of the Paterson police test means the highest scoring applicants will make it through to the local police academy.
