About Madison Police Department

To pass the Madison police department test, candidates are expected to undertake a three-part exam that’s composed of a written exam, a fitness exam, and an oral board interview. Success at all three parts of the Madison police exam is necessary to make it through to the police academy.

Madison is one of the great and growing cities of Wisconsin with a population of approximately 260,000. Currently, Madison police department is accepting new submissions for candidates hoping to make it through to the Spring 2022 academy.

The hiring process is simple. First, candidates must complete and submit the application form to the department. Next, in Stage II, candidates will be asked to sit a written test, which examines the candidates’ ability to communicate and understand reading comprehension, grammar, and police vocabulary. Stage III of the Madison police test is the fitness exam. You will be tested on abdominal strength, cardiovascular endurance, and upper body strength.

Once Stage III is finished, candidates make it through to Stage IV where they are expected to undertake an oral board exam, a personal history statement and background investigation, as well as an interview and personality assessment. It’s worth noting that any remaining candidates who make it through to Stage IV will also be interviewed as part of the process by the current Chief of Police.

Stage V is the medical evaluation and physical readiness assessment. This tests whether you are physically capable and have the biological parameters needed to safely and effectively function as a law enforcement officer for Madison Police Department. Medical evaluations take place after you have received a conditional offer of employment at the department.

On the day you begin work at the department is also the same way at which you join the Madison police academy. This is intense physical training that also involves a heavy theoretical and legal framework to prepare you for the needs and demands of a modern police officer. Success at the Madison police department test is contingent on long-term preparation into each stage listed above.

Application forms for the Madison police exam can be found online. Applications for positions at the department are currently high.
