To be eligible to join Louisiana state troopers, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
Must be at least
19-years old.
Must be a US citizen (or permanent resident)
High school graduation certificate (or similar proof)
Completion of the entry hiring process (detailed below).

Once you have met the above minimum requirements and once your initial application has been filled and submitted, you will be expected to undertake the following subtests.
The highest performing applicants in these subtests will be invited to enter the Louisiana state trooper training academy, where they will undertake an intensive 6-week course program.

Applicants who pass all sections of the Louisiana state trooper test will be issued an offer of employment.
You will need to accept this employment offer within the specified timeframe that the department has given you.

Today, it is a separate agency which falls under the authority of Louisiana department of public safety and corrections. LSP troopers have jurisdiction throughout the state. The agency is divided into 9 patrol troops and is headquartered at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Among other specialized units, the agency also has an air support unit which currently has 7 pilots that are assigned to 3 operation bases located throughout the state.
