04

Every applicant taking Indianapolis police department test must undertake an oral board exam.

During this exam, you will be interviewed on a wide variety of questions – both relating to you and your suitability for the role, as well as more critical questions that assess your judgment when applied to specific policing scenarios.

You need to be prepared; to think on your feet, but to react proportionately and professionally throughout the test.

About Indianapolis Police Department Test

For many Americans, Indianapolis is most famous as the home of the Indianapolis Speedway and the Indy 500, but this Great Lakes state has a long and proud history dating all the way back to 1821. Indianapolis is America’s 12th largest city. It’s often nicknamed the “Crossroads of America” due to its central, well-connected location and has been an important transport hub since its founding. Today, Indianapolis sits at the center of five railroads and four interstate highways and also boasts its own international airport.

The city of Indianapolis has seen a big change of character over the last couple of decades, with the manufacturing industry giving way to business and finance, and the city keen to promote itself as a major sporting venue.

As far as policing goes, “The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department” (IMPD) is the principle law enforcement agency for the city of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well the surrounding county of Marion, Indiana. Before the 2007 merger with Marion County, the IMPD was simply known as the Indianapolis Police Department (IPD), a title many still use today. The Indianapolis Police Department’s headquarters are located downtown in the City-County building on North Alabama Street, and the force has around 1,700 sworn offices and another 250 civilian employees at its disposal. The Indianapolis Police Department dates back to 1854, when Indianapolis founding Mayor James McCready appointed just 14 men as the city’s first official law enforcement officers.

To pass the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department test, applicants will have to show competence in a written and physical exam, as well as taking part in a
structured oral assessment and a polygraph phase. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department test includes 24 weeks of intensive physical and academic preparation, with recruits studying criminal justice, human behavior, law, and criminal investigation.
