Alma, popularly known as the Spinach capital of the world, is a small city located in Arkansas’ Crawford County. Situated at the foot of the Ozark Mountains, this small city, according to the 2010 census, accommodated a scanty population of 5,419 people residing in 1,560 households. In 1874, Alma was incorporated into the Federation and to this day, the economy remains predominantly agrarian.

The Alma Arkansas Police Department is the nationally recognized law enforcement agency for the city of Alma, Arkansas. Composed of well-trained and equipped officers who pledge their untiring service and protection, the department makes the lives of the inhabitants more safe and secure. The Alma Arkansas Police Department is headed by an elected chief of Police who supervises the functioning and administration of the Department. For more efficient policing the Department is divided into various divisions, each division performing a specific function. Each of these divisions is headed by a supervisor, who is in turn accountable to the Chief of Police.

The Patrol division, that is responsible to answer calls for service. The department uses a rotational shift scheme to ensure that the whole city is covered. Patrol Officers deal with criminal complaints and penalize any incident of traffic violation. Thanks to the tireless work of this department, the crime rate fell by 27% in the last decade. The criminal investigations division investigates crimes and felony. It works in close collaboration with the Patrol Division and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to track down and prosecute offenders. The Department has an entire division dedicated to providing for school resource officers, following successive incidents of kidnapping in the ’90s. Since the deployment of this division, children have been significantly safer. As their mission statement states, they “strive to enhance the quality of life in Alma, Arkansas, by providing a professional, well-trained approach to law enforcement”. Statistics testify to this, as violent crime rates have been on the decline.
